Button doesn't revert back to defaultSkin.

I have a strange issue where my button doesn't revert back to the default skin when I lift my finger off the button.

_signinButtonBG = new Image( Main.assets.getTexture("button9ScaleKeyline"));
_signinButtonBG.scale9Grid = new Rectangle(20,20,20,20);

_signinButtonSelectedBG = new Image( Main.assets.getTexture("button9Scale"));
_signinButtonSelectedBG.scale9Grid = new Rectangle(20,20,20,20);

_signinButtonHoverBG = new Image( Main.assets.getTexture("button9Scale"));
_signinButtonHoverBG.scale9Grid = new Rectangle(20,20,20,20);
			
_signInOutButton = new Button();
_signInOutButton.defaultSkin = _signinButtonBG;
_signInOutButton.downSkin = _signinButtonSelectedBG;
_signInOutButton.hoverSkin = _signinButtonHoverBG;
_signInOutButton.width = 100;
_signInOutButton.height = 100;
addChild(_signInOutButton);
			
_signInOutButton.addEventListener( Event.TRIGGERED, onTriggered );

(nothing occurs in the onTriggered function).

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Perhaps it is remaining in the hover state.

If TouchPhase.HOVER is detected before TouchPhase.BEGAN, then the button will return to the hover state on TouchPhase.ENDED, as long as the touch ends within the bounds of the button. I guess some touches can result in TouchPhase.HOVER, similar to a mouse. Maybe it depends on the platform?

Unfortunately, Starling translates both mouse and touch to the same event, so this is probably the best that I can come up with to differentiate between the two. If touch always results in a hover on all platforms, though, I guess that's just how it goes, and you should avoid adding a hover skin on platforms where it isn't needed. Starling's SystemUtil.isDesktop could be useful for that.
